To a Healthy New Year!

Preventing health problems before they occur is the least expensive and most effective way to protect yourself and your family from serious financial, emotional and physical stresses in the future.

A new report rating the performance of state health systems in 2015 ranked Wisconsin among the nation’s very best in the prevention and treatment of disease. It’s fair to say that, along with our skilled doctors, nurses and technicians, we can attribute this high level of care to patients like yourself.

The best health care occurs when doctors and their patients work together as a team, each playing an active role in the prevention and treatment of disease.

The New Year is the perfect time to take some steps to keep yourself and your family healthy, and the Wisconsin Health Information Organization (WHIO) created the website MyHealthWI.org to help you.

Not all illnesses can be prevented, but the sooner a condition like heart disease or diabetes can be treated and controlled, the better the outcome for the patient.

Prepare for a doctor visit in advance by keeping track of how you’re feeling and any problems you may be having, and bring the information with you. Your written notes will help doctors and nurses assess the state of your health and needs for care. MyHealthWI.org gives you tips on what information to bring and what questions to ask at your office visit. It also explains common medical conditions and what tests and treatments are recommended for them. If you understand what a particular disease is and why certain medications and behaviors are recommended, you may find it easier to stick to a treatment plan to follow at home.

Use MyHealthWI.org as a resource throughout the year. The more information you have, the better you can work with your doctor to prevent and treat diseases before they become serious.

All of us at WHIO wish you and your family a happy and healthy New Year!
